INTERNET EVANGELISM DAY
Why do so few Christians use the Internet for evangelism? The Internet Evangelism Coalition is endorsing a worldwide focus day in 2005, to help churches and Christian groups understand the outreach potential that the Web offers them.
Internet Evangelism Day will be on 24 April 2005. Churches and other Christian organizations are asked to create a slot in their programs to focus on web evangelism. Downloadable resources are available on the IE Day website for this purpose: www.InternetEvangelismDay.com

HAVE A DEFIANT CHRISTMAS
I could not do justice to this article by Catholic theologian John Shea by trying to summarize it for you. You need to read it for yourself—it will totally change the way you look at Christmas. Here is the link:

HUMAN SIN
All human sin seems so much worse in its consequences than in its intentions.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS AND HYMNS
The following link is to a page of EasyFunSchool, where you can find great ideas for celebrating the Christmas season using the carols and hymns of Christmas. While we enjoy them and sing them every year, sadly we are too ignorant of their origins and think even less of their meanings. The fifteen selections on this website would be good to use in family devotions, in Sunday School, devotions or activities for adult fellowships or even as a devotion before choir practice! The origin of each song is included, along with some discussion suggestions and activities to emphasize the meanings. Check it out for yourself at:
http://www.easyfunschool.com/article1680.html
Though the purpose of EasyFunSchool is to provide resources and ideas for homeschooling, there are many great ideas and suggestions which can be applied in a church setting or in families where there is no homeschooling at all. For example, another page from the same site offers many other activities and suggestions for making the Christmas season meaningful. Various legends, a study on the names of Jesus for the month of December, recipes for the kids to make, and even instructions on making an Advent calendar using 35mm film canisters! You might choose to print this link in your church’s newsletter or worship bulletin as an aid to the families in your church—or at least let your Sunday School teachers be aware of it.

WHO NEEDS YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT TODAY?
Dante Bartiel Rossetti, a 19th-century poet and artist, was once approached by an elderly man, with some drawings that he wanted Rossetti to look at and tell him if they were any good. Rossetti looked them over carefully. After the first few he knew that they were worthless, showing not the least sign of artistic talent. But Rossetti was a kind man and he told the elderly man, as gently as possible, that the pictures were without much value and showed little talent. He was sorry, but he could not lie to the man. The visitor was disappointed, but seemed to expect Rossetti's judgment. He then apologized for taking up Rossetti's time, but would he just look at a few more drawings - these done by a young art student? Rossetti looked over the second batch of sketches and immediately enthused over the talent they revealed. "These," he said, "ah, these are good. This young man, whoever he is, has great talent. He should be given every help and encouragement in his career as an artist. He has a great future, if he will work hard and stick with it." Rossetti could see that the old fellow was deeply moved. "Who is this fine young artist?" he asked. "Your son?"
"No," said the old fellow sadly. "It is me -- 40 years ago. If only I had heard your praise then … for you see, I got discouraged and gave up -- too soon."

FOUR WONDERFUL WORDS
There are four words I wish we would never forget, and they are, “God keeps His word.”

I AM A SOLDIER
I am a soldier, a prayer warrior, of the army of my God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, Prayer and the Word are my weapons of warfare.
I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience,
tried by adversity, and tested by fire.
I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this army at the Rapture or die in this Army;
but I will not get out, sell out, be talked out.
I am faithful, capable, and dependable.
If my God needs me, I am there.
I am a soldier, a prayer warrior. I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up, pumped up, picked up, or pepped up.
I am a soldier, a prayer warrior.
No one has to call me, remind me, write me, visit me, entice me, or lure me.
I am a solider, a prayer warrior. I am not a wimp.
I am in place, saluting my King, obeying His orders, praising His name and building His Kingdom!
I am a soldier, a prayer warrior.
No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy, or give me handouts.
I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to.
I am committed.
I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.

WHAT VALUE DO YOU PLACE ON CHRISTMAS?
You may have heard about the ten-year-old cheese sandwich which was recently sold on eBay for a ridiculous amount of money. Here’s a way you can use this story in your Christmas messages:
Diana Duyser had made the sandwich on white bread with American cheese ten years ago. She took one bite from it and noticed a “face” staring back at her. Believing it to be an image of the Virgin Mary, she placed it in a jar with some cotton balls and placed it on her bedside table, where it stayed until recently. Putting it up for auction on eBay, the online auction site, Duyser had her auction pulled by eBay officials when they thought it was a hoax. When Duyser confirmed that she would deliver on any winning bid, the sandwich was reinstated.
GoldenPalace.com, an online casino, put in the winning bid with $28,000. Think of that: $28,000 for a ten-year-old cheese sandwich with a bite taken out of it! Said Duyser, who works at home designing jewelry: “I would like all people to know that I do believe that this is the Virgin Mary Mother of God.”
Interesting that this story should break here in this holiday season, when people are shopping for gifts for loved ones and acquaintances. Some obviously placed a higher value on that sandwich that I would, that’s for sure. But that prompts a question: what things do I value? How much value would I place on other things, such as faith, God’s Word, prayer, church, family? If those items were up for auction, how much would I bid—how far would I go? The gifts the Wise Men brought the Christ Child may have been very valuable—in fact, they may have helped finance the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt. But does a gift to the Christ Child have to have monetary value in order to be treasured by Him? No, of course not.
So what can you and I offer him this Christmas? Will it be a half-eaten cheese sandwich—or would He prefer our hearts?

A GOOD THING FOR FAMILIES TO REMEMBER THIS CHRISTMAS
When children become adults, they remember the little things you did together, like playing ball, roasting marshmallows, or hiking a trail. They rarely remember toys.

FAITH MEANS…
When we are abandoned by the things we value, when we discover that no matter how much we have gathered we do not have enough, when we realize that even in the currency we value we are very poor, we are ready to start talking to God. Not before. Faith means betting our lives on the grace of God.

TO CELEBRATE THIS CHRISTMAS
THE LOVE OF GOD
How incomprehensible is the love of God! His ways are indeed past finding out. How many of His providences are like the cloud between the Israelites and the
Egyptians—if looked on by unbelievers, or without faith, it is a cloud of darkness; but if viewed according to the privilege of the Lord's people, it is no longer darkness, but light and safety. May this be your experience; may you feel that the Hand which inflicts the wound supplies the balm, and that He who has emptied your heart has filled the void with Himself.
