THE LOVE OF GOD

There is an experience of the love of God which, when it comes upon us, and enfolds
us, and bathes us, and warms us, is so utterly new that we can hardly identify it with the old phrase, God is love. Can this be the love of God, this burning, tender, wooing, wounding pain of love that pierces the marrow of my bones and burns out old loves and ambitions? God experienced is a vast surprise.

A Sunday school teacher was telling her class the story of the Good Samaritan, in which a man was beaten, robbed and left for dead. She described the situation in vivid detail so her students would catch the drama.

Then, she asked the class, "If you saw a person lying on the roadside, all wounded and bleeding, what would you do?"

A thoughtful little girl broke the hushed silence, "I think I'd throw up."

WHAT ARE **YOU** LOOKING FOR?

The traveler was in unfamiliar territory, and directly in front of him was a fork in the road with no signpost telling him which way to go. “Which way to Stumpville?” he asked of a lazy-looking man who was perched on a fence near the road. The fence-sitter languidly waved his hand toward the left.

“Thanks,” said the traveler. “How far is it?”

“’Tain’t so very far,” was the slow reply. “When you get there, you’ll wish it was a darn sight farther.”

SPRINGS OF LIVING WATER

Life does not come with a guarantee

Of all sunny days and trouble free.

We never know when clouds will form

And bring an unexpected storm;

With gusty winds and sheets of rain

To flood our life with tears and pain.

Just when we think the worst has passed,

Another storm has moved in fast.

We hold on to our faith and pray;

While the ground beneath us washes away.

Then in this time of deepest despair,

We wonder if the Lord heard our prayer.

We seek His face both night and day;

Pleading with Him to take the pain away.

In all our struggling we often fail to hear

His still, small voice say “Child draw near,

Let Me comfort you and give you rest,

While you trust in Me to know what is best.”

When all our struggling finally wears us out,

And our faith is threatened by our doubt,

We dig deeper into God’s Word to find

His unfailing promises to ease our mind.

With a broken spirit we seek His face.

And find Him waiting at His Throne of Grace.

Then instead of giving Him our request,

We simply say “Lord, You know what is best,

Just tell me what You want me to do;

My heart’s desire is only to please You.

Even in times when I do not understand,

Lord help me to just keep holding Your hand.”

He says “My grace is sufficient for you,

My love for you is everlasting and true.

I have a purpose for you to fulfill,

All planned out according to My will.

But for that purpose to ever be,

You must learn to completely trust Me.”

“When the storms come Child, just hold My hand,

There are many things you will not understand.

I will always sustain you through what the storm brings,

I am always here to shelter you safely under My wings,

If the ground washes away before the stormy rainfall slows,

Go Deeper, to the Spring where My Living Water flows.”

Trees cannot yield fruit without the rain showers,

There would be no green plants, or beautiful flowers.

Even after the most raging flood, His promise we know,

God brightens the sky with His colorful rainbow.

He is always with us in storms of life, our Strength when we are weak,

But we must draw nearer to Him, to hear His still, small voice speak.

NEWS FLASH!!! THEY ARE **OUR** RESPONSIBILITY!!!!

If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies.  If they perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees.  Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for.

YOU WILL NEVER BE SORRY ~~~

...for thinking before acting.

...for hearing all the facts before judging.

...for being a forgiving person.

...for being candid and frank.

...for being helpful.

...for being honest.

...for thinking before speaking.

...for standing by your principles.

...for closing your ears to gossip.

...for not gossiping.

...for not allowing anger and resentment to upset your life.

...for giving without expecting a return.

...for sympathizing with the afflicted.

...for being courteous and kind to all.

FROM EVERY PULPIT

From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, ... still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed... resting place for the heart and mind but in the Throne of God. What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God.

ENVY

Remember the story of Mozart's life told from the perspective of Antonio Salieri. The play and the film were both called Amadeus. Salieri was the court musician in Vienna. He worked hard at his craft, writing melodies that were nice and choral pieces that were fine and instrumental works that were good. He knew that God had blessed him.

As a young man he had prayed fervently to God, "Let me make music that will glorify you, Father. Help me lift the hearts of people to heaven. Let me serve you through my music."

Then came the boy wonder, the child prodigy, young Mozart. He dazzled the crowds, playing music as if it was second nature to him. Complex melodies came from his dancing fingers. His melodies were complex and fun all at the same time, songs that soared till they seemed to bring heaven right down to earth.

Here's the catch: Mozart was such an obvious sinner. He was immature, vulgar, and obscene. He made off with the ladies every chance he could get. Salieri grew green with envy. How could life be so unfair. He was the servant of God. Why should Mozart be blessed with such talents? Salieri lived a pious and obedient life. Why should Mozart traffic in all these worldly pleasures and still get ahead? Salieri spent a lifetime of hard and tedious work. Why should it all come so easily for youthful Mozart?

The story continues until Mozart dies a mysterious death. Salieri's eyes gleam. And in the dramatic climax, Salieri sits in an insane asylum, where he curses God for denying him the kind of talent that blessed young Mozart. Envy lurks on the path of the crushed spirit.

A STRANGE BEATITUDE

“Blessed are they that mourn.” This seems indeed a strange beatitude. But to those who have learned its meaning it is no longer strange. There are blessings, rich, deep and satisfying, which we never can know until we mourn. You would never see the stars if the sun continued to shine through all the twenty-four hours. It would be a loss, too, to any one if he were to pass through all the years of his human life and never once behold night’s sky with its brilliant stars. We can then say: “Blessed is the hour when the sun goes down and it grows dark, for then we see the glory of Heaven’s stars.”

RUNNING FOR HOME

Someday the bell will sound,

Some day my heart will bound,

As with a shout that school is out

And lessons done, I homeward run.
