Keeping Your Torch Lit

Officials reported that as the date for the 1998 Winter Olympics drew nearer, those running with the Olympic Torch were having trouble keeping the fire burning. It was a troublesome problem from the beginning.

So they came out with a new torch, redesigned to better protect the flame from the wind. But as the torch came out, the flame went out.

Ever felt that way? Certainly there are periods when it becomes increasingly difficult to keep the fires of faithfulness and diligence burning brightly. We go about our duties, perhaps without even realizing that our torches have gone out.

When this happens, we need to follow the example of those running with the Olympic Torch: stop long enough to relight.

It may require something as simple as a day off, a good night's rest, a refocusing of priorities, time alone with God--or maybe something more involved.

Think: What might be necessary to start the fires burning brightly again in your heart?
