TRYING TO SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE THIS YEAR? CONSIDER THIS…
God could have made birds with bones of massive gold, with veins full of molten silver, with flesh heavier than lead and with tiny wings. … He could have made fish heavier than lead, and thus twelve times heavier than water, but he has wished to make the former of bone, flesh and feathers that are light enough, and the latter as heavier than water, to teach us that He rejoices in simplicity and facility.

LIFE IS WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT
A son and his father were walking in the mountains. Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
Curious, he yells: "Who are you?" He receives the answer: "Who are you?" Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!" He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?" The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!" The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Again the man screams: "You are a champion!" The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence. This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life; Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

THIS PUTS A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON PRAYER
Every work of God can be traced to some kneeling form.

WORRY
A man ninety years old was asked to what he attributed his longevity. 'I reckon,' he said, with a twinkle in his eye, 'It's because most nights I went to bed and slept when I should have sat up and worried."

THE PLAIN DOING OF HIS WILL
Christianity is not a voice in the wilderness, but a life in the world. It is not an idea in the air, but feet on the ground, going God's way. It is not an exotic to be kept under glass, but a hardy plant to bear twelve months of fruits in all kinds of weather. Fidelity to duty is its root and branch. Nothing we can say to the Lord, no calling Him by great or dear names, can take the place of the plain doing of His will.
--Maltbie D. Babcock
(NOTE: That would make a good sermon title on obedience: “The Plain Doing of His Will.”)

HE’S HOLDING THE OTHER END—WHAT A WONDERFUL THOUGHT!
If you feel like you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on! Because God's a God of miracles, and He's holding the other end.

PASTOR, REMEMBER THIS AND DO NOT GIVE UP
When nothing else seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow the rock will split in two, and I know that it was not only that blow which split it, but all that had gone before.

SERMON IDEA: THE EBB AND FLOW OF LIFE
O Lord, sea of love and goodness, let me not fear too much the storms and winds of my daily life, and let me know that there is ebb and flow but that the sea remains the sea.
