ONE MILLION CHRISTIAN VOTERS
Just thought you might like to know about a great website that is rallying one million Christian voters this year. I took part and thought you might be interested. This could change our nation. Go here:

VOTER REGISTRATION
Dear Friend,
Greetings from Focus on the Family! By now, you've undoubtedly heard about our innovative new voter registration initiative here at the ministry. The outcome of the general election in November will likely influence the direction of our nation for years to come, and our goal is to ensure that all eligible Christians are registered to vote.

Whether directly or indirectly, our elected leaders will be making life and death decisions on our behalf over the next four years. Critical issues will be addressed by those in power, including how the war on terror will be fought; whether the youngest members of the human race will be sacrificed in the name of medical research; whether the "right" to kill pre-born children will continue; and whether marriage will be defined exclusively as the sacred union of one man and one woman, as God intended. Without a doubt, you and I and millions of other Christians have a vested interest in how those questions will be answered.
Unfortunately, 39 million Christians did not take the time to vote in the last presidential election. In addition, 24 million won't be able to vote in this year's election because they are not registered! With the well-being of future generations at stake, I hope that you can appreciate the critical nature of this coming election and the absolute necessity of registering and then voting for the candidates who represent your values.

To streamline the registration process, Focus has developed a Web site, www.iVoteValues.org. I urge you to visit the site and register, if you have not already done so. In addition, please encourage your unregistered family members and friends to log on to ivotevalues.org as soon as possible. I hope that you and your loved ones will do everything you can to make sure that you are fully equipped to make your voices heard this fall. It only takes a few minutes, but the impact could potentially last for generations.

Please don't let these opportunities pass you by. Being involved in the public square is the duty of all Christians, and registering to vote is the key to engaging in the democratic process as our Founding Fathers envisioned it. Every voice does matter – don't underestimate the importance of your vote in influencing our country for righteousness!

Sincerely,
James Dobson

CHILDREN ARE DOGS, TEENAGERS ARE CATS

Just realized that while children are dogs ... loyal and affectionate ... teenagers are CATS.

You feed it, train it, boss it around. It puts its head on your knee and gazes at you as if you were a Rembrandt painting. It bounds indoors with enthusiasm when you call it.

Then around age 13, your adoring little puppy turns into a big old cat... When you tell it to come inside, it looks amazed, as if wondering who died and made you emperor. Instead of dogging your footsteps, it disappears.

You won't see it again until it gets hungry... then it pauses on its sprint through the kitchen long enough to turn its nose up at whatever you're serving.

When you reach out to ruffle its head, in that old affectionate gesture, it twists away from you, then gives you a blank stare, as if trying to remember where it has seen you before.

You, not realizing that the dog is now a cat, think something must be desperately wrong with it. It seems so antisocial, so distant, sort of depressed. It won't go on family outings.

Since you're the one who raised it, taught it to fetch and stay and sit on command, you assume that you did something wrong. Flooded with guilt and fear, you redouble your efforts to make your pet behave.

Only now you're dealing with a cat, so everything that worked before now produces the opposite of the desired result. Call it, and it runs away. Tell it to sit, and it jumps on the counter. The more you go toward it, wringing your hands, the more it moves away.

Instead of continuing to act like a dog owner, you can learn to behave like a cat owner. Put a dish of food near the door, and let it come to you.

But remember that a cat needs your help and your affection too. Sit still, and it will come, seeking that warm, comforting lap it has not entirely forgotten. Be there to open the door for it.

One day your grown-up child will walk into the kitchen, give you a big kiss and say, "You've been on your feet all day. Let me get those dishes for you."

Then you'll realize your cat is a dog again.

DEALING WITH FEAR
Jackson went to a psychiatrist. “Doc,” he said, “I’ve got trouble. Every time I get into bed I think there’s somebody under it. I get under the bed, I think there’s somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under. I’m goin’ crazy.”

“Just put yourself in my hands for two years,” said the shrink. “Come to me three times a week, and I’ll cure you.”

“How much do you charge?”

“A hundred dollars per visit.”

“I’ll think about it.”

Jackson never went back. Six months later he met the doctor on the street. “Why didn’t you ever come to see me again?” asked the psychiatrist.

“For a hundred dollars a visit? A friend cured me for ten dollars.”

“Is that so? How?”

“He told me to cut the legs off the bed.”

WHERE’S THE REAL BLAME?
If a man without a sense of smell declared that this yellow rose I hold had no scent, we should know that he was wrong. The defect is in him, not in the flower. It is the same with a man who says there is no God. It merely means that he is without the capacity to discern the presence.

CHURCH ATTENDANCE
Nine statements you will not likely hear:

1.Sunday is the only day we have to rest, so we are not going skiing on the lake this afternoon.
2.No, it’s raining a little bit, so we won’t be able to go to the ballgame.
3.Yes, that’s right, Boss. I will not be coming in for a few days. I just don’t like the way they do things down there at the office.
4.No, I just cannot make it to work today. Company just came.
5.Johnny does not want to go to the dentist and if I make him go, I am afraid he will develop a complex against dentists and will not go when he is grown.
6.My doctor says I must give up something, so I’m giving up fishing.
7.I can’t come to the special cheerleaders meeting. I have to go to choir practice.
8.Coach, I did not get my date home until 1:00 a.m., so I just do not feel like getting up and playing in the big game tonight.
9.I don’t know how long we’re going to be in town, so don’t bother to hook up the electricity.

GOD
God really is there. He really does exist, and He made us for Himself. Knowing that He is there, and therefore that we do not live in a silent universe, changes everything. To know that we can speak, and that there is Someone who will answer fills the vacuum of life that would otherwise be present. And then, when we realize His love for us as individuals—that Christ really did die for us as individuals, for us personally—life is entirely different.

FAITHFULNESS OF GOD
I’m thankful that God is not like the weather. He is as stable as a rock fortress. I can deal with a difficult situation because I know He won’t change. He always listens and is at my side to help me. While others may fail me, He never will. How grateful I am for God’s immutable character!
