THAT’S MY KING
There are several variations of the following which you can find quite easily on the Internet. One of them recently has been included in “Glorious Appearing,” the twelfth and final book in the “Left Behind” series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins (chapter one). This is an excerpt from a sermon by Shadrach Meshach Lockridge, and probably varied each time he preached it. I thought you might like to have at least one of the versions:

JESUS
My King was born King; the Bible says He's the seven-way King.
He's the King of the Jews- that is a racial King.
He's the King of Israel - that's a national king.
He's the King of righteousness,
He's the King of the ages,
He's the King of heaven,
He's the King of glory,
He's the King of kings and
He is the Lord of lords.
Now, that's my King.

Well, I wonder if you know Him do you know Him?
Don't try to mislead me - do you know my King?
David said, "The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows His handiwork."
My King is the only one, whom there is no means of measure can define His limitless love.
No far-seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of His shoreless supplies.
No barriers can hinder Him from pouring out His blessing.
He's enduringly strong, He's entirely sincere, He's eternally steadfast, He's immortally graceful, imperially powerful, He's impartially merciful.

That's my King. He's God's Son, He's the sinner's Savior. He's the centerpiece of civilization, He stands alone in Himself. He's awesome, unique, unparalleled -
He's unprecedented.

He's the miracle of the age. He's the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him. He is the only one able to supply all of our needs simultaneously. He supplies strength for the weak. He's available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves.
He foreguards and He guides.
He heals the sick.
He cleanses the lepers.
He forgives sinners.
He discharges debtors.
He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged.
He rewards the diligent, and He beautifies the meek. Do you know Him?

Well, my King is the King of knowledge.
He's the wellspring of wisdom, He's the doorway of deliverance.
He's the pathway of peace, He's the roadway of righteousness, He's the highway of holiness, He's the gateway of glory.
He's the Master of the mighty, He's the Captain of the conquerors, He's the Head of the heroes and He's the Leader of the legislators!
He's the Overseer of the overcomers, He's the Governor of the governors.
He's the Prince of princes, He's the King of kings, and He's the Lord of lords.
That's my King.

His office is manifold and His promise is sure. His light is matchless,
His goodness is limitless.
His mercy is everlasting and His love never changes.
His Word is enough, His grace is sufficient.
His reign is righteous, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
Well, I wish I could describe Him to you, but He's indescribable!
He's incomprehensible, invincible, irresistible.

I'm trying to tell you the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him, let alone a man explain Him!
You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your hands.
You can't outlive Him and you can't live without Him!
Well, Pharisees couldn't stand Him but they found out they couldn't stop Him.
Pilot couldn't find any fault in Him.
The witnesses couldn't get their testimonies to agree and Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him and the grave couldn't hold Him.
That's my King!

He always has been and He always will be.
I'm talking about, He had no predecessor and He'll have no successor.
There was nobody before Him and there will be no one after Him.
You can't impeach Him and He's not going to resign.
That's my King!

Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory.
Well, all the power belongs to my King.
We around here talk about black-power, and white-power, and green-power, but it's God's power! Thine is the power and the glory!
We are trying to get prestige and honor and glory for ourselves but the glory is all His.
Yes, Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever and ever and ever and ever (how long is that?) and ever and ever and ever and ever.  And when you get through with all of the forevers, then  "Amen!"

THAT’S NOT WHAT HE ASKED ME
Vance Havner, a great preacher of another generation, told a story about a man who came home from work one day, and found his wife visibly shaken and upset. He said, “Honey, what’s wrong?” She said, “The strangest thing happened today, a man knocked on my door, and when I opened the door, it was a stranger. He said, ‘Ma’am, do you know Jesus?’ I was so shocked by his question, I didn’t know what to say so I just shut the door in his face.”

Her husband got upset. He said, “Honey, why didn’t you tell him you sing in the choir every Sunday at our church? Why didn’t you tell him you are the President of the Ladies Aid Society at our church? Why didn’t you tell that man every Christmas you collect toys for the poor in our community? Why didn’t you tell him those things?”

She said, “That’s not what he asked. He asked me if I knew Jesus.”

EIGHT PRINCIPLES OF CHRIST’S LORDSHIP
1.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I obey the initial promptings of the Holy Spirit without hesitation or argument. In other words, “What He says to you, do it.”
2.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I am committed to fulfilling His will for my life before I even know what He will require of me.
3.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I am available to serve Him without regard to time, space, or circumstances.
4.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I recognize His ownership of my total life and all of my possessions—and submit to that ownership.
5.Jesus Christ is my Lord when pleasing Him exceeds my desire to please others.
6.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I look to Him as the source of all my needs and desires.
7.Jesus Christ is my Lord when I am turning my difficulties and my failures into opportunities for spiritual growth.
8.Jesus Christ is my Lord when to know Him intimately becomes the obsession of my life. There must be total commitment, obedience and availability for His use.

OBEDIENCE
Obedience does not begin with the outward act. Obedience begins in the heart with the will….There must be a deliberate act of your will if you are going to obey God. There are three choices you have to make with your will if you are going to obey God. First of all, you have to choose to obey God 100 percent. Second, you must choose to obey God whether anybody else does or not. Third, choose to obey Him no matter what it costs.

ROMANS 8:28

All Things Work Together For Good to Them That Love God
Romans 8:28

Just how this statement can be true,
Perhaps has often puzzled you;
You’ve wondered how that “all things” could
Work out for your eternal good;
How trouble, sorrow and unrest,
Could work together for the best;
How this could be, you did not know,
And yet, you felt it must be so.

Now “all things” mean both good and bad,
Yes, things that really make you sad;
It means your sickness and your health,
Your poverty as well as wealth;
Of trouble you will have your share,
While in this world of toil and care;
But rest assured you have a friend,
Who knows your life from start to end.

Should God permit dark clouds some day,
To cast a gloom across your way,
Just take it as your Father’s will;
You’re in His care, He loves you still;
Be not alarmed, nor be cast down,
‘Tis through these trials you win a crown;
All earthly sorrow soon shall cease,
While joys eternal shall increase.

There’s must we do not understand,
But “all things” are within His hand;
Remember God’s mysterious plan
Cannot be solved by mortal man.
But when we reach the land of rest,
We then shall see that He knew best;
The things we had not understood,
We’ll realize were for our good.

GUIDANCE, WILL OF GOD
It’s a bit like river rafting with an experienced guide. You may begin to panic when the guide steers you straight into a steep waterfall, especially if another course appears much safe. Yet, after you’ve emerged from the swirling depths and wiped the spray from your eyes, you see that just beyond the seemingly “safe” route was a series of jagged rocks. Your guide knew what he was doing after all.

HOPE
I wish I could make it all new again; I can’t. But God can. “He restores my soul,” wrote the shepherd. God doesn’t reform; He restores. He doesn’t camouflage the old; He restores the new. The Master Builder will pull out the original plan and restore it. He will restore the vigor; He will restore the energy. He will restore the hope. He will restore the soul.

WAITING, PATIENCE
Sometimes God says “Wait” when we would rather move. Chuck Swindoll calls waiting the hardest discipline in the Christian life. I agree. That is why the psalmist says, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7). God’s guidance demands our obedience, even when it makes no sense to us. Sometimes God moves when we want to stay. Sometimes God says “Stay” when we would rather move on and get our life going again.

ADVERSITY
Disappointments, sorrows, the end of a dream—we all face these. Dead ends, walls we can’t seem to climb over. The sharp edges, the pains of life sometimes threaten to overwhelm us. And we cry out, “What is God doing?”

God doesn’t have to answer us, of course, but usually He does, either at that moment or later. It is then that we say with overwhelming awe, “Look at what God has done with this that seemed so horrible to me.”

In the economy of God, we find that He wastes nothing. From what seems the darkest of nights He often brings the brightest of dawns.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Nearly everytime Jesus is mentioned in the Scriptures as being at the right hand of God, He is sitting. Nearly everytime. But there is one instance, and only one that I can find, where Jesus is seen standing on the right hand of God. What significance is that, and how can it encourage and comfort us when a loved one has died?

Always on the search for another story or illustration? Ever hesitate to use any particular story because you've used it too many times already?

Here's a solution! "Funeral Ideas and Illustrations" contains more than 100 stories, poems, and quotations for use in funerals or in Bible studies or sermons on death.

The items found in this collection come from a wide variety of sources. There may be some stories and/or poems you've used for years, and there are some you've never seen before. Some of the sermon outlines and messages are original material. And it's only $5.

In this collection, you will find:
--A sermon specifically designed for the Thanksgiving Season
--A poem written by a wife and son of a relatively young man who passed away.
--What a man wrote after losing three children to death
--Which hymn encouraged Daniel Webster in his final hours
--What Golda Meir said when asked if Israel would allow Nikita Kruschev's body to be buried in Israel
--An encouraging poem which is great to use in a funeral when a grieving spouse is left behind.
--A portion of a letter a Godly woman left behind for her family to read after she had gone on to be with the Lord.
--Mary Pickford's wonderful analogy of death
--Cardinal Joseph Bernardin's viewpoint of his own approaching death
--The word early Christians used to describe the place where they placed the bodies of loved ones when they died--a comforting, encouraging thought!
